MICA ECO
Information
What if it could be seen how every drop of water is used (from a morning shower to a hidden leak) — and that knowledge were used to change behaviour, save resources, and care for its citizens? With MICA ECO’s technology it’s much simpler than it sounds. Its AI-powered system disaggregates domestic water consumption by activity (shower, dishwasher, etc) from a single water meter, empowering citizens to reduce consumption and enabling city halls to gain real-time insights for smarter drought management, social initiatives, and sustainability planning. Backed by Barcelona City Hall and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, MICA ECO bridges the gap between households and urban water systems.
Activities
DCA-IoT: MICA ECO leverages IoT technology by using a single smart sensor to monitor household water consumption in real time. The sensor collects detailed data on usage by activity (e.g., shower, dishwasher), which is transmitted via networks to the platform for analysis. This aligns directly with the IoT community’s focus on interconnecting objects to capture actionable data.
DCA-IA: The platform applies artificial intelligence to disaggregate water consumption and generate personalized recommendations for behavior change. AI algorithms analyze patterns, detect inefficiencies, and provide predictive insights, making households active participants in water conservation. This directly connects to the DCA-IA community’s focus on algorithms enabling intelligent decision-making.
DCA-GovTech: By providing aggregated insights to utilities and public authorities, MICA ECO supports data-driven decision-making for water management, peak demand control, and drought preparedness. This contributes to the GovTech community by offering digital solutions that enhance public service efficiency and citizen engagement.
